This rapid review systematically gathered and analyzed educational literature on ChatGPT that emerged after its release, building an initial evidence base on how this AI chatbot is actually affecting teaching and learning.
Three key findings emerged. First, ChatGPT showed clear promise as a learning support tool—particularly for obtaining immediate feedback, writing assistance, and concept clarification. Applications in language learning, essay composition, and coding education were especially prominent. Second, academic dishonesty emerged as a primary concern: the difficulty of distinguishing AI-generated text from student-authored work is forcing a fundamental rethink of assessment design across disciplines.
